About me: Kathleen Rooyakkers (she/her/hers)

I'm approaching 40 years of age, and I'm blessed with a wonderful husband and two beautiful daughters who bring boundless joy into our lives.

Through the lens of life experience, I embarked on a profound re-evaluation of my lifestyle and mental well-being. This introspection sparked my journey into creating a more mindful home environment.

In tandem with my personal evolution, my husband and I found ourselves navigating the unique landscape of parenting a neuro-divergent child. This, coupled with the transformative insights gained from my studies, prompted us to place a significant emphasis on mindfulness in our daughters' education, family life, sports, and all other facets of their lives.

As I witnessed the remarkable positive effects these changes brought to my girls, a deep-seated passion emerged within me — the desire to share these transformative practices with other families. It was then that I made the decision to leave my 15-year engineering career behind and embark on a new path dedicated to nurturing the well-being of the next generation.

I have undergone professional training in the application of mindfulness for youth aged 7-18 through the Canadian Mindfulness Institute. Beyond my formal training, mindfulness has seamlessly woven itself into the fabric of my daily life through both personal practice and as a central component of my children's upbringing. Additionally, I have achieved certification in children's yoga instruction, an invaluable asset within our mindfulness practices.

In the course of my own mindfulness journey with my family, I unearthed a profound love for triathlons, a passion I share with my daughters. This shared love led me to become a certified coach, and it ultimately inspired the creation of the P.A.C.E. Triathlon Community, located in Seaforth, Ontario.

Invisible Wounds Fireside Chat

A friend who has done amazing things in promoting open discussion around mental health especially in connection to first responders created the organization Invisible Wounds. This organization focuses on creating Events/Seminars/Workshops for mental wellness. The organization is dedicated to positively contributing to the lives of First Responders, health professionals, and their families.

I had the honour of being asked by Invisible Wounds to participate in a series to tell my story of the things our family went through and how it changed my life in hopes of providing inspiration to others going through hard situations. This series was televised on Wightman and posted to the Invisible Wounds YouTube Channel. Here is my video from May 2022:
